Accounts

An account is the record held by the Identity Service that allows a person to sign in to the shared systems of the Velocity Interoperability Network. Accounts are held by individuals and may not be shared. Each account is linked to the member organisation that requested it.

Who may hold an account

  • Staff of a member organisation of the Network, for the period of their employment.
  • Officers of a department of the Network, for the period of their appointment.
  • Contractors engaged by a member organisation, for the period of the engagement and not exceeding 12 months.

Requesting an account

Accounts are requested by member organisations, not by individuals. A member organisation requests accounts for its staff by email to contact@id.gov.vin, giving the name of the organisation, the name and role of each person, and the period for which the account is required. The Service confirms each account to the organisation, which then passes the details to the account holder. Requests from individuals are not accepted.

Closing an account

An account is closed in any of the following circumstances.

  • At the request of the member organisation that requested the account, by email to the Service.
  • When the member organisation reports that the holder has left its employment or engagement.
  • When the period stated in the original request has ended and no extension has been requested.
  • When the account has not been used to sign in for 18 months.
  • When the member organisation ceases to be a member of the Network, in which case all of its accounts are closed.

A closed account cannot be reopened. If access is needed again, the member organisation must request a new account.

For how sign-in works once an account has been issued, see Signing In.
